Japan Top Weekly Manga Ranking: February 3, 2020 ~ February 9, 2020

Okay, I have got to admit that I was a little skeptical at first. I did somewhat think that Yaiba’s latest volume would sold more than before, but never did I expect this many. If you may have noticed, I was having this discussion with Izzy the other day. Izzy was absolutely on point! And they came up selling way more. For comparison, when volume 18 came out, it sold 950,671 copies. Volume 19 sold 1,378,361 copies which is an increment of about 31%. This is quite significant considering the fact that ONE PIECE Vol. 95 did not manage to even sell this much when it was released.

The success of Kimetsu no Yaiba was also said to be somewhat peculiar according to Jump Editor-in-Chief. He noted that, sales of Manga would usually grow during the Anime’s run. However, Yaiba was slightly different and that it grew after the Anime has ended. You can read more about them here (SGCAFE) and here (ANN).

The week between February 3 and February 9 has not many notable differences as Kimetsu no Yaiba continued to plough through the rankings. We do see a few new titles making into the list such as Dr, STONE (No. 14), Owari no Seraph (No. 18), Act-age (No.21), Kenja no Mago (No. 22), Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai! (No. 23) and a few others. Ao no Ashi dropped from number 19 the week before to the edge of the list at number 30 while Go-Toubun no Hanayome and ONE PIECE were ejected from the top 30. The full list, is as below:

In other news, Kimetsu no Yaiba tops the sales chart for weekly ranking by series at number 1 with a total sales of 1,526.8 million yen (tax included). Promare on the other hand, occupied the number 3 spot with a total sales of 505.7 million yen (tax included).

  1. This is honestly insane, Erzat. Thanks for sharing all of this, sales are so exciting to follow when a series explodes like this.

    You just have to wonder how high it’s going to go… One Piece’s 95th was a particularly weak volume (and immediately sold way more on week 2), but even volume 94 sold less than this, and volume 93 (although ever so slightly, to the point where it could be a statistical error).

    And even though OP’s volumes sell more in the following weeks, KnY has also had incredibly long legs on ALL of its volumes lately.

    This is just crazy, it’s a lot of fun. Going from being a new series by a rookie and not even being able to chart, to selling more than everything else. Just fantastic. Personally I also love the manga itself and follow it every week, so I’m excited to see it succeeding so much.

      Well judging from its current trajectory, I am not surprise if volume 20 would sell more. Seems like as day goes by, the series as a whole is gaining more attention from the community. And as you said, all of its volumes are showing no signs of slowing down. It is crazy. When I first did a post with all of its volumes in the top 15, you know that it was just bizarre. Especially from a series that is barely known.

      It is great for you too! Seeing your favourite doing so well!

      I can’t help, I am really curious as to how ufotable knew that this would be a hit. I wonder how the decision process went. I might do some digging. I have been missing out a lot lately.
