Japan Top Weekly Manga Ranking: August 9, 2021 ~ August 15, 2021

Releases, new or old have to face a fearsome Tokyo Revengers for the week as its volumes continue to slay the sales chart, but what makes them different this time around would be the higher than usual week-on-week sales as each volume records almost 20% improvement from its last. Despite the absence of Volume 4 and Volume 23 on the Top 30 chart, the rest sees a total of 1,240,664 copies sold for the week!

It is thanks to the amazing folks over at Oricon that we get to see these charts on a weekly basis, so be sure to head over to their site here and show them tonnes of love! Plus, all the data you find below is accessible via Oricon right here (Manga) and here (Series).

Good news for Boku no Hero Academia is that it sees its best two-week sales amongst its latest eight volumes as the 154,706 copies it has sold for the week pushes the total of copies sold to 533,367 as of Week 2.

Still, new releases fare quite well for the week with Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun Volume 13 reporting a total of 132,140 copies sold. The Special Edition of the volume places 2nd with 70,137 copies, and considering the price of each volume, it has certainly boost the title’s revenue as evident in the Top Weekly Series chart where the title comes in 3rd at 143.0 million yen. This is certainly a better outcome than sales of Volume 12, however, do note that the title’s past volumes at one point hit above 200,000 copies sold, in particular Volume 6 to Volume 9. Sales have not been able to push above the number, nevertheless having been able to stay around the 130,000 copies sold range is much welcomed.

Chihayafuru Volume 47 comes in 3rd with 68,164 copies, an increase of 13.83% over Volume 46. The series is clearly struggling as it is not able to produce the same result as Volume 41 and the volumes that came before. While a correction is possible in Week 2, number of copies sold may still not be enough to see a similar performance the likes of Volume 30 nor Volume 37. The series received three Anime seasons adapted by studio Madhouse, and Volume 47 is noted to be the volume featuring the climax of the series. The Manga started its serialization back in 2007 through Kodansha’s Be Love magazine, and it now has 27 volumes published in English digitally through Kodansha USA.

One more new release in the week’s chart is Tensei Kenja no Isekai Life: Dai-2 no Shokugyou wo Ete, Sekai Saikyou ni Narimashita Volume 13 at Number 6. It sees 62,156 copies sold, up 29.45% over Volume 12’s 43,484 copies. This is in fact its best debut sales performance since Volume 8. Note that Volume 10 failed to reach the Top 30 chart back in its release week. Square Enix USA will be publishing the 1st volume in English this coming December 2021, so do check it out!
