Japan Top Weekly Anime Blu-ray and DVD Ranking: October 5, 2020 ~ October 11, 2020

Sales of Anime Blu-rays and DVDs are quite modest between October 5 to October 11, however the appearance of a certain title makes the chart interesting. Before that, Strike the Blood IV’s latest volume takes home the crown for the week selling 6,682 copies in its first week. If you are wondering how the title’s fourth season is doing, the answer is quite well. Sales of its Blu-rays have been hovering around the upper parts of the 6,000 copies sold range. Unfortunately, volume 3 sold a lot less than the 2nd, which managed a good 7,522 copies sold back in July. The same is for the title you see at number 2. Toaru Kagaku no Railgun T has also been on a steady boat ride, while the first volume went off on a rough start – 3,000 copies sold, the volumes that came after have all been selling above 4,000 copies. Volume 5 (in the chart) sold slightly better than volume 4 which debuted back in July.

It is thanks to the amazing folks over at Oricon that we get to see these charts on a weekly basis, so be sure to head over to their site here and show them lots of love! The data for the week can be found here (Blu-ray) and here (DVD).

If you look at number 5 and below, you would see the sudden reemergence of Violet Evergarden. Note that, Violet Evergarden Gaiden: Eien to Jidou Shuki Ningyou did make the chart for September 21, 2020 to September 27, 2020, this time you see almost an entire catalogue of the series up in the chart, almost. A quick search on my part did not turn up any significant results as to why this happened, I do infer that this may be due to its recently aired film, which came out back on September 18 – it is still being shown till this day, 24 days counting. Weird if you ask me, why did the numbers not go up at the time except for Gaiden? Since the arson attack happened in July of 2019, I doubt it has any relation to it. Nevertheless, it turns out that the film has been a great success in Japan according to Crunchyroll. It has so far earned 1.28 billion yen (~$12.2 million) since its first screening and is 3rd on the weekend box office in Japan (latest). For those of you who are interested, I leave the first 10 minutes of the film shared by KyoAni down below:

Other than that, Funimation is set to release the complete Blu-ray set for the series, finally after a long absence from the North American market. I have included the links along with the list below, though some of you may still want to check it out here.

As for the rest in the chart, Princess Connect! Re:Dive’s third volume fell 90% for the week to 2,116 copies sold. In total it has sold 23,783 copies in Japan within two weeks.
