Violet Evergarden rocks the chart with perhaps its best sales ever made as a series as both its Movie’s Special Edition and Regular Edition places 1st and 3rd for the week on the Anime Blu-ray chart at 57,029 copies and 21,808 copies sold respectively. Not to forget, the DVD release also leads its very own chart at 10,139 copies sold, putting a combined 88,976 copies sold in total. Note that the title last made its appearance with its side story film, Violet Evergarden Gaiden: Eien to Jidou Shuki Ningyou back in March 2020, and a total of 24,802 copies were sold in its first 5 days. Copies sold for its TV Animation series were healthy as well with both Blu-rays and DVDs hitting above 5,500 copies sold each, the highest it ever achieved was for Volume 4, where it sold 6,755 copies in its first 5 days. But, of course there are several other new releases making onto the chart with the 2nd Season of Fate/Grand Carnival trailing Violet Evergarden at 28,258 copies with an improvement of 26.94% over the 1st Season, which at the time of its release saw 20,646 copies sold. The release of the 2nd season have also spurred demands for Blu-ray copies of the 1st which places 5th on the week’s chart at 1,571 copies.
Then, we have Tian Guan Ci Fu‘s Part 1 release settling at Number 4 for the week at a rather impressive 4,401 copies sold. Two spots below is the last volume of Thunderbolt Fantasy: Touriken Yuuki 3 at 1,309 copies. This is an upgrade over Volume 3’s 1,155 copies sold back in September, and is certainly its best debut performance. Volume 1 sold 1,166 copies in its first 5 days while Volume 2 failed to rank, however it should have seen a similar turnout.

And interestingly, at Number 8 is the pre-release debut of Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2205: Aratanaru Tabidachi Volume 1, which sets 1 month prior to its official release. The official cutoff for the Top 20 Blu-ray chart is 861 copies, and thus it has sold below that amount. With pre-release sales already taken into account now, it may see underwhelming sales on its official day of release.

To put things to close, Violet Evergarden Movie is way ahead in terms revenue for the week at an estimated 898,313,600 yen (~7.9 million USD) worth of sales made. Fate/Grand Carnival 2nd Season is 2nd at 223,196,000 yen (~1.9 million USD) while the pricier tag on Tian Guan Ci Fu allows it to place 3rd at 74,817,000 yen (~655 thousand USD). A couple of things to note about the price you see down below: I have decided to take the base price instead of the price inclusive of tax as this should give a clearer view since the tax revenue will be going to the government instead.
