Well this is quite unexpected. I did not factor in Disney’s film when predicting what would sell well for the week between May 11 to May 17 as their products are not listed on sites such as gameiroiro. Oricon still considers them Anime, therefore Disney’s animated films will appear on their list. With that said, Frozen II did extremely well on its debut as it tops the week’s chart selling an approximate 250,000 copies for its Blu-rays alone (not including the steelbook edition as data is not available for the said product). Not to mention that, it sold another 70,000 copies in its DVD department which brings the total of copies sold to more than 320,000 nationwide Japan in its first week.

The spots, 1 to 5 are dominated by Disney films including the prequel to Frozen II at number 4. The growth in its sales may very well be attributable to the release of Frozen II. Finally, we have Fragtime at number 6 debuting at 1,500 copies for the week while Ensemble Stars! and Free! Movie 3 at number 8 as well as number 10 respectively.
Sales of Japanese animation may show a sign of recovery for the week between May 18 to May 24 as heavyweight titles such as Haikyuu!!: To the Top and Psycho-Pass 3, will be making their volume 2 and 3 respective debuts. However, Frozen II is expected to still be present in next week’s chart. Without further ado, the full list is as follows:
