  1. Yuru camp got a massive drop from s1, which didn’t even air that long ago (2018). S1 got a average of 14k per volume.

It’s funny cause Yorimoi aired in the same season, it did 10k, and here we have the box set for it selling about the same as Yuru camp s2 v1.

    1. Wow, if that is the case, the difference is staggering. Interestingly, Season 2 seems to have fewer members on MAL than Season 1. It could be the lack of viewership. I am not sure if the same is applied to Japan. Manga seems to be doing quite okay though. What is your conjecture based on this?

      1. Having fewer members is natural, you lose on people that didn’t like s1 much, aren’t MAL users anymore, people that simply lost interest over the years.

But I don’t think that has a direct impact on blu ray sales by itself (viewership), the people that paid the money for the series (let’s be real, anime in Japan isn’t cheap at all, I import some myself and so do you) are the most likely to keep watching given series on following season. Look at say Oregairu s3 (kan), kan on MAL got way less viewers as it aired 5 years after s2 (and s2 already had a good amount less than s1 (which is normal for reasons above), but sales didn’t drop season on season at all, cause the hardcore fan base is willing to stay and pay the price to keep buying the anime.

Yuru Camp itself is very successful in Japan, got 2 videogames incoming, even a anime movie, so I wouldn’t say the hype died down or anything over there, but sure is hard to explain such a drop, I’d expect a drop as most anime drop but always on the 9-11k territory(like gochiusa did, but gochiusa s3 also took way longer to air after s2), barely 1/3 of the sales is a very harsh drop.. maybe the season itself (quality/content wise) wasn’t to their tastes as much as s1? I mean sales are still good all things considered, but not fantastic like before.

ps: I always use oregairu, or talk about it cause it’s my fav series, hope you don’t mind lol

      2. No worries about the Oregairu reference! I don’t mind at all. 😁

I think you do have a point. It will be hard to really determine the cause. A simple conjecture would be that people have lost interest in the series. But, that doesn’t seem to be the case (seeing its Manga is relatively still doing well). Plus, if the retention is there, the fanbase as you mentioned will not mind chipping in for the Blu-rays or DVDs. I wish I could get more data on this, like why people stop buying certain products. Reviews have been good so far, or maybe the competition? 🤔

Argh, my mind is all clustered now. But, thanks for your thought! It is always great to hear what others think.
