The lack of new releases is surely palpable in the week’s chart with only two titles making their way onto the Top 10. Nevertheless, Anime Blu-rays and DVDs sold perform surprisingly well to see the two placing nine titles and eight titles respectively in the Top 20 charts available here (Blu-ray) and here (DVD). Remember that it is thanks to the awesome folks over at Oricon that we get to see these charts on a weekly basis, so visiting them here and showering them with lots of love is a must!
The two new releases are side by side for the week and is led by the 3rd volume of Hige wo Soru. Soshite Joshikousei wo Hirou. The 1,861 copies sold it makes is 5.29% less than sales of Volume 2 in its first week, however it is still 5.48% better than Volume 1’s 1,759 copies sold. There are still three volumes left in its catalogue, and we can expect more or less the same outcome with its subsequent volumes. Note that the Light Novel recently ended on a positive note seeing 22,146 copies sold in its first week with the release of its 5th volume in June of 2021, which was a 55.78% increase over Volume 4’s 9,794 copies. While the Anime too has ended, you can still read the Manga which is still publishing under the same name. The good news is One Peace Books is set to release the first two volumes in English this coming months of October and December! Be sure to check it out right here.
World Trigger 2nd Season Volume 1 is the other new release which places 5th for the week. Since the Blu-ray covers the first half of the season (episodes 1 to 6), it will only receive two volumes in total. While pricing at 13,800 yen may look good for 1,817 copies sold, considering that Volume 2 will most likely achieve the same result, sales are decent at best as there will be no more volumes coming out after till the sequel is released. Well, things are still very optimistic for the series as sales of its Manga are still going strong. Volume 23 which debuted in February of 2021 saw 238,549 copies sold in its first week, and the 80,364 copies sold it had on Week 2 allowed the title to close its two-week sales at a very healthy 318,913 copies sold! Past titles dominate the rest of the charts with Kimetsu no Yaiba Movie: Mugen Ressha-hen makes a comeback with the Regular Edition climbing 34.61% week-on-week. This is not that unusual for a title as popular as Kimetsu no Yaiba, but the few new releases may have attributed to the rise. As a result, total copies sold for its Blu-rays and DVDs are at a great 14,730 copies sold. Although Uma Musume: Pretty Derby (TV) Season 2 Volume 3 has recorded a very small drop in sales, its past volumes have risen modestly to settle for Number 6 and Number 7. This brings the total number of copies sold for the title at 5,067 copies.
The Limited Edition of Gintama: The Final slumps 94.07% to 1,862 copies week-on-week while its DVDs manage to see 2,086 copies sold. In total, that would be 3,948 copies sold bringing its two-week sales to 55,972 copies (Note that this excludes the Regular Edition for its Blu-ray)! Raya and the Last Dragon comes in at Number 8 with 643 copies sold whereas Mononoke Hime finishes at Number 10 for the week.
