A rather abysmal week if I may say so myself. The force is not as strong for Anime Blu-rays and DVDs sold nationwide Japan this week according to Oricon’s latest chart accessible here (Blu-ray) and here (DVD). Only two of the ten titles made into the top 20 of Blu-rays sold in Japan as Anime for the week between April 27 to May 3 are overshadowed by the release of Star Wars Blu-rays. As per data available via Oricon here, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker tops the chart (occupying the number 1 to 3 spots) for the week selling 124,854 copies (not inclusive of DVDs, it sold 13,486 copies in that department).

This time, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun T tops the week’s chart after securing sales of over 3,000 copies of its Limited Release Blu-ray edition. The title is the third installment of the 2009 series, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun and features the Daihasei Festival arc. Following closely is Disney’s Toy Story 4 which managed a comeback after sitting in at 6 the previous week. It climbed 4 spots to settle for 2nd place for the week. Akira however, dropped a spot to number 3 with no sales data available as it did not make the top 20 Blu-ray chart.
Two new titles also made into the list this week with Blu-ray boxes of JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 4: Diamond wa Kudakenai taking the 4th and 5th spots while High Score Girl II occupies the 6th place. The full list is as follows:
