Japan Top 17 Weekly Light Novel Sales Ranking: July 25 – July 31, 2022

It has not been that long since we were blessed with the release of Overlord Volume 15, and in just a month, the sequel volume that concludes the Half-elf Yousei no Shinjin (The Half-elf God-kin) arc makes its appearance in the form of Volume 16, sitting atop of the list at 77,843 copies sold in its first 3 days whereas its Special Edition is placed 3rd at 22,855 copies, putting its total sales at a great 100,698 copies sold. Note that the latest volume goes on sale a day shorter than Volume 15, which in its first 4 days sold 108,133 copies. However, revenue-wise, Volume 16 should have a slight advantage as its Special Edition cost more than Volume 15’s own Special by 17.65%. When compared to past volumes with the same number of days of sales, Volume 16 sold 6.31% more than Volume 11’s 94,720 copies, but it sold 21.19% less than Volume 13’s 127,770 copies. That said, Volume 13 did not have its own Special Edition copies offered. The series was first published by KADOKAWA in July 2012 and was adapted into a Manga series by artist Fugin Miyama in 2014. You can read its first Manga chapter here for free in Japanese. In July 2015, it was adapted into a 13-episode TV Anime series by studio Madhouse. As of the end of June this year, the series has more than 11 million copies in print (Source: Dengeki Online).

Kusuriya no Hitorigoto Volume 12’s Regular Edition is next at Number 2 with 25,870 copies sold in its first 3 days, add that amount with the 7,323 copies sold it has for its Special Edition copies, and you will arrive at a strong start of 33,193 copies sold for the latest volume, though this latest performance of it is not as good as two of its past volumes. Volume 12 is 7.50% and 11.06% lower than sales made for Volumes 10 and 11 (with the latter having its own Special Edition volume), also in their first 3 days. Kusuriya no Hitorigoto was first published in August of 2014 and was adapted into a Manga series by artist Nekokurage nearly three years later, serialized in Big Gangan magazine, more information about the Manga can be obtained right here along the first chapter that is available for reading for free in Japanese. The very same year the Manga was launched, another Manga title, a spin-off of the main series was released by artist Minoji Kurata titled “Maomao no Koukyuu Nazotoki Techou” which is currently serialized in Sunday Gene-X magazine by Shogakukan. You can check out some of its chapters that are available for free right here in Japanese. According to its latest volume cover, the series has hit 18 million copies in circulation including digital. A short video was also released to promote Volume 12’s Special Edition copies of which you can watch below!

Tokidoki Bosotto Russia-go de Dereru Tonari no Aalya-san is next at Number 6 with copies sold slightly down volume-to-volume by 19.65% and 28.68% against Volumes 2 and 4 as the latest Volume 4.5 settles in at 14,191 copies sold in its first 3 days. Tokidoki Bosotto Russia-go de Dereru Tonari no Aalya-san (or Roshidere as it is most commonly known) first began its publication journey with the release of Volume 1 in February 2021. As of its 4th volume, the series has already hit the milestone of 500,000 copies in print (Source: Ln-news). More information about the Light Novel title can be obtained via its official website here, plus a video which describes what the series is all about can be watched below, released in December last year.

Coming in at Number 11 is Deokure Tamer no Sono Higurashi Volume 9 at 5,437 copies sold in its first 3 days, a minor setback of 7.88% over the sales of Volume 8 which sold 5,902 copies back in January this year with the same number of days of sales. Yet, the latest performance is better than the 7-day sales of Volume 7 that debuted in May last year at 5,640 copies. The work was first published in May of 2018 and a Manga serialization was greenlighted in November the same year with artist Tachibana at the helm of the project. You can find out more about the title via its official web page right here and read some of its Manga chapters for free through Comic Walker in Japanese.

At Number 13 is a title you may be familiar with, Sekai Saikou no Ansatsusha, Isekai Kizoku ni Tensei suru Volume 7 at 4,101 copies sold in its first 3 days. The series has made an appearance before on Oricon’s Light Novel, but that was for Volume 3 where it sold 5,892 copies in 3 days. After that, none of its volumes have made it onto the Top 10 until now. The series first began its journey as a web novel in July 2018 before an official volume was released in February the year after. Before the first Light Novel volume was published, it was serialized as a Manga by artist Hamao Sumeragi through the Young Ace UP magazine of which a preview of Volume 1 can be read here for free in Japanese. It was then adapted into a 12-episode TV Anime series by SILVER LINK. and Studio Palette in 2021. As of 2021, its current circulation status is more than 1 million copies according to Abema and if you seek more information about the work, you can head over to its official web page right here. A short video was also released recently by KADOKAWA to promote the series of which you can watch below.

Liar Liar Volume 11 settles in at Number 14 with 4,052 copies sold in its first week. It was last seen placing on the Oricon Top 10 list for Volumes 8 and 9 which sold 5,554 copies and 5,478 copies in their first 5 days and 4 days. It was first published in April 2019 and was adapted into a Manga series by artist Funa Yukina the very same year. As of November 2020, the series was said to have 1.9 million copies in print (Source: Tsuiran).
