Japan Top 17 Weekly Light Novel Sales Ranking: August 8 – August 14, 2022

Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame ni wa Shudan wo Erandeiraremasen Part 5: Megami no Keshin leads the weekly Light Novel sales chart between August 8 and August 14 at 29,528 copies sold in its first 5 days, up by 30.61% over Volume 6’s 22,608 copies sold in its first 6 days. That said, the Light Novel may have seen a better outcome had Volumes 7 and 8 went on sale a few days longer. As of the time of their releases on the charts, the volumes had 3 days and 2 days of sales each. With more than 7 million copies in circulation including digital as of its latest volume, the work was initially published in January 2015 with more information about it can be found on its official web page right here. A Manga adaptation is also available of which some of its chapters are available right here in Japanese for free. In 2019, it received a 14-episode TV Anime adaptation by Ajia-Do which the studio then went on to produce its next two seasons.

Hoshi no Kirby: Discovery Shinsekai e Hashiri dase! Hen, the latest addition to the Kirby Light Novel family, takes the 2^nd spot with 21,679 copies sold in its first week. The series was last seen with Starlight Theatre e Youkoso! back in March this year which started out softer at 9,356 copies sold in its first 5 days. Then slightly way back to December 2021, Nazo to Jiken no Pupupu Train?! no Maki sold 9,843 copies in its first 5 days. The novelization of One Piece Film: Red can be found with its Regular Edition at Number 4 with 18,004 copies sold in its first 6 days while the Mirai Bunko Edition is 16^th on the list at 4,536 copies sold. Together, that would be 22,540 copies.

Shin Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Cygnus no Otome-tachi is 5^th on the list at 13,551 copies sold in its first 5 days, not as good as the performance of its past volumes with only minor improvement observable over Volume 1 which sold 12,917 copies in its first 2 days. Volumes 2 and 3 had shorter days of sales of 3 days and 4 days each, yet they performed much better than the latest volume. The work is a spin-off title of the main storyline which was first published in January 2021 and centres around the character Alisa Juumonji. A Manga adaptation is also available with some of its chapters available for reading right here in Japanese.

Itai no wa Iya nanode Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu. Volume 14 takes the 9^th spot at 10,326 copies sold in its first 5 days, an improvement over Volume 12’s 9,855 copies sold in its first 6 days and rather stable when compared to Volume 13 in its first 4 days. Publication first began for the series in September of 2017 and around eight months later, it was adapted into a Manga series which is serialized in Comp Ace with some of its chapters available for reading right here in Japanese. The series has now more than 1.6 million copies according to its web page and will soon receive a sequel to its TV Anime series which first season was broadcasted in January 2020. At Number 12, we have Eromanga-sensei which has not appeared on the chart for quite some time now. Volume 13 sees a positive start at 8,307 copies sold in its first 5 days. The work was first published in December 2013 which it later on received a Manga adaptation in May 2014, though the Manga could only last for twelve volumes. With more than 1.5 million copies in circulation according to its latest cover, more information about the work can be found here on its official web page. The series was adapted into a 12-episode TV Anime series in April 2017 and an OVA was released in 2019 that encompasses two episodes: Yamada Elf’s Love Song and Cooked Meals of Pure Love.

At Number 10 is Silent Witch Chinmoku no Majo no Kakushigoto Volume 4 at 9,677 copies sold in its first 5 days and was last seen with Volumes 2 and 3 at 4,391 copies and 8,347 copies sold in their first 3 days and 4 days. The Light Novel began its journey in June 2021 and was adapted into a Manga series the month after via B’s-LOG Comic. Some of its Manga chapters can be read here for free in Japanese. Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha: Shijou Saikyou no Maou no Shiso, Tensei shite Shison-tachi no Gakkou e Kayou is next at Number 15 with its 12^th volume Part 1 selling 5,434 copies in its first 5 days, not looking good for the series considering it did much better with past volumes despite them having shorter days of sales. For instance, Volume 9 sold 8,037 copies in its first 3 days while Volume 11 which was at 4 days of sales did slightly better at 6,716 copies. The title was first published by KADOKAWA in March 2018 with a Manga adaptation greenlit in 2018, though it was short-lived having only lasted for four volumes. In 2022, it received a 13-episode TV Anime adaptation with a sequel set to commence in 2023 in a split-cour. It has so far amassed more than 1.8 million copies in circulation (Source: Anime Kaisetu).
