Japan Top 17 Weekly Light Novel Ranking: May 23, 2022 to May 29, 2022

Shinrei Tantei Yakumo makes a double appearance as it tops the chart with its main Light Novel at 16,228 copies sold while the volume Complete Files settles in for 3^rd place at 7,356 copies sold, both in their first 6 days. According to several databases, the 12^th volume should be its final, however it does have a spin-off title that is still ongoing which is the Light Novel titled “Shinrei Tantei Yakumo: Another Files”. The series has had two Manga adaptation that was serialized in 2007 and 2009, but both have already ended. In 2010, it received a 13-episode TV Anime series adaptation by Bee Train. So far, no other adaptations have been announced. In March this year, KADOKAWA also released a voiced promotional video of its 12^th volume which features voice actor Souma Saitou.

­Following closely behind is Koukyuu no Kenshi Nyokan’s 3^rd volume by Haruka Ono at 7,818 copies sold in its first 6 days. The title has never made onto the available charts since the Blog started taking, making this its first ever appearance. More information about the work can be found on its official webpage right here and according to its cover, with just three volumes in, the series printed circulation status has passed the 100,000 mark. Note that the series is set for a Manga adaptation announced by Akihito Ono (the official artist) via Twitter which its serialization should be taking place via Media Factory’s Comic Gene. You can check out the magazine’s catalogue right here (look at the second last line). As of the time of writing, its chapters are still not available for preview.

Number 4 is Izure Saikyou no Renkinjutsushi? Volume 12 at 6,371 copies sold in its first 5 days. This would not be the series’ first appearance on the chart as its has done so multiple times before with its past volumes. The title was seen for its 6^th volume at 7,550 copies sold in its first 3 days back in October 2019 before skipping out on the charts for the next four subsequent volumes in their debut weeks before appearing again for Volume 11 which had 4,418 copies sold in its first 3 days back in December last year. The title has an ongoing Manga adaptation that is serializing in AlphaPolis Web Manga of which some of its chapters are available for reading right here in Japanese, so do check them out! According to its volume cover, the series has now passed 670,000 copies in printed circulation.

Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru which comes in 5^th on the list is probably a title that you may be familiar with. Its volume Side Case Summer sold 5,594 copies in its first 6 days. The title’s main storyline novel was published between February 2013 and March 2021, and it had two Manga adaptations that were serialized in 2015 and 2017 which came to end two years later. The same year the Manga began, it also received an Anime adaptation that spanned 12 episodes, produced by TROYCA. The series has now hit 1.6 million copies in printed circulation as of its latest volume according to its cover. Sasaki to Pii-chan which comes after is certainly a title to look out for. It settles in for 6^th place on the chart at 5,472 copies sold in its first 5 days. The Light Novel title was also the winner of the Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! 2022 edition for the Tankoubon category and has appeared on the chart once before for its 4^th volume. At the time, the volume sold 3,646 copies in its first 4 days. Good news for English readers would be that it is soon set to welcome its official releases this coming month of August while the 2^nd volume will be out in September. It also has a Manga adaptation that is ongoing, serialized in Shounen Ace Plus with some of its chapters available for free in Japanese right here. KADOKAWA also released the first chapter of its Manga on Youtube voiced by Tomokazu Sugita and Aoi Yuki, and you can check out the video down below!

Skip over to Number 8 is another AlphaPolis title, Amari Mono Isekai-jin no Jiyuu Seikatsu Volume 3 makes its debut at 5,312 copies sold in its first 5 days. Note that this will be the first time the series has appeared on Oricon’s charts since the Blog started tracking. The title has a Manga adaptation that is currently serializing under the same name via AlphaPolis Web Manga. Its first three chapters are available for free in Japanese for you to read. Tensei shite Inaka de Slow Life wo Okuritai which is 11^th on the list is a title that has been published since March of 2017. Its Kizoku-tachi no Oasobi volume sees a total of 4,817 copies sold in its first 4 days. It does have a Manga adaptation available too, serializing in Kono Manga ga Sugoi! Web. You can check out some of its chapters right here for free in Japanese (click here for easy access to Chapter 1). Its volume’s cover states that the series has now reached 500,000 copies in printed circulation.

At Number 14 is Haruna-chan, Ganbaru? Fairy Tail Chronicle which is not its first appearance on the weekly Light Novel charts. This is in fact, its fourth consecutive appearance for its volumes’ debuts after missing a spot for Volume 3 (note that its 1^st and 2^nd volumes were also featured back in January and May 2020). Unfortunately, its sales performance has not been doing so well with copies sold appearing to be much weaker than its past volumes. As a comparison, look at Volumes 4 and 6, both at 4 days of sales with 5,806 copies and 4,642 copies, much higher than the 4,471 copies sold for Volume 7 in its first 5 days.

Class no Daikirai na Joshi to Kekkon suru Koto ni Natta. Volume 5 is all the way at Number 15 with 4,263 copies sold in its first 5 days, lower than the 5,769 copies sold it had for Volume 3 back in August 2021, also in its first 5 days.
