Japan Top 16 Weekly Light Novel Ranking: June 27, 2022 ~ July 3, 2022

There are not that many new releases this time around, but it certainly is a lot lively thanks to the entrance of Overlord Volume 15 which sees a massive turnout of 108,133 copies sold in its first 4 days. This is very impressive considering the series last had a volume release back in March 2020. Perhaps, because of the two-year gap, its latest performance is not as good as its volume that came before this in terms of copies sold. The 14^th volume, at the time of its release, recorded 132,461 copies sold in its first 4 days, which would make Volume 15’s performance a 18.37% reduction from that. Note that its latest volume covers the first part of the Half-elf Yousei no Shinjin (The Half-elf God-kin) arc. Overlord was first published by KADOKAWA in July 2012 before being adapted into Manga by artist Fugin Miyama in 2014. Around more than half a year after its Manga serialization, it received an Anime adaptation by studio Madhouse between July 2015 and September 2015 that propelled the series to great success. This can be particularly observed with Volume 11 which was released sometime after the first Anime season ended. It then received two follow up seasons with the latest one titled “Overlord IV” that is currently being broadcasted this season, produced by the same studio. As for its Manga, you can check out its first chapter right here in Japanese for free via Comic Walker. The series, as of the end of June this year has passed 11 million copies in print (Source: Dengeki Online).

Now, before we look at the rest on the new releases on the list, let us shift our attention quickly to the two-week sales performances of Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e: 2-nensei-hen and Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu. For both titles, their sales trends are indicative of a decline, which is more palpable in the case of Re:Zero. Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e: 2-nensei-hen Volume 7’s 10-day performance is 3.64% and 3.75% less than Volumes 1 and 6, but it is 2.80% more than Volume 4.5. As for Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu Volume 30, its copies sold mark the series fifth consecutive drop among those with 10 days of sales. The volume sold 38.62%, 20.64%, 25.59%, 14.52% and 5.08% less than Volumes 24, 25, 27, 28 and 29.

Head over to Number 5 and you will find Ryuujin to Iinazuke no Akai Hana Shirushi: Unmei no Akashi o Motsu Shoujo at 6,780 copies sold in its first 6 days, which is part of the Oni no Hanayome series. You can actually check out the first few chapters of the volume for free right here in Japanese and according to its cover, the series is said to have passed 400,000 in printed circulation.

Then, at Number 6 is D Genesis: Dungeon ga Dekite 3-nen Volume 6 at 6,608 copies sold in its first 4 days, which is definitely an improvement over the 7-day and 3-day sales of Volumes 4 and 5. The series began its publication journey in 2019, and in the following year, it received a Manga adaptation by artist Miya Taira of which its first ten chapters can be read for free right here in Japanese. Head all the way down to Number 12 and you will find Mamahaha no Tsurego ga Motokano datta Volume 9 at 4,363 copies sold in its first 3 days, down from the 5,534 copies sold for Volume 7 by 21.16%. The title was initially published by KADOKAWA in December 2018 and an adaptation of its Light Novel into Manga was released the following year in the month of May, serialized via the Dra-Dra Sharp# magazine. As of the month of January this year, the series has passed 500,000 copies in printed circulation according to Animate Times). Some sixteen of its Manga chapters have been made freely available in Japanese through Comic Walker here, however, if more information about the series is what you are looking for, you can check out its official website here. The series is currently having its Anime adaptation being aired this season, produced by Project No.9. To capitalize on the Anime adaptation, KADOKAWA has also uploaded a short commercial video to promote the series of which you can watch down below.

Finally, we have Chou Nankan Dungeon de 10-mannen Shugyou Shita Kekka, Sekai Saikyou ni: Saijaku Munou no Gekokujou Volume 2 at Number 15, the series’ first ever appearance on the chart since the Blog started tracking at 3,776 copies sold in its first 4 days.
