Japan Top 15 Weekly Light Novel Ranking: April 4, 2022 to April 10, 2022

It does not come as a surprise to see Honzuki no Gekokujou leading the charge after it did so with the 7th volume between December 6 and December 12, 2021. Back then, the volume debuted at a strong 24,507 copies in the first 3 days, followed by a sharp drop the week after to 5,780 copies. Nevertheless, copies sold as of its 10th day managed to push above the 30,000 mark. Volume 8 retains somewhat the momentum of Volume 7, however it does so slightly better at 21,673 copies in just 2 days. It is unlikely that copies sold for Volume 7 would meet the kind of sales it did so with Volume 7 the following week, as such copies sold are expected to stay above 6,000 copies for the next 7 days. The third TV Anime season of the series is currently airing and may have contributed to the positive result of its 8th volume. Produced by Ajia-Do, the latest season is expecting ten episodes, slated to end this coming June. J-Novel Club is releasing the official English volumes where the 1st volume of Part 4 will hit shores this coming July 19th.

The number of other new releases on the chart this time around is modest. The second new release belongs to Number 4’s Souyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index Volume 6 at 9,516 copies sold in the first 3 days. This would mark its third consecutive drop among those with 3 days of sales. The title, which is a continuation of Shinyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index made a strong debut with its 1st volume back on February 7, 2020, with copies sold amounting to 17,351 in the first 3 days. That number then dropped to 16,933 copies for Volume 2, also in the first 3 days. The performance worsened for Volume 5 when the 3-day sales fell to 10,962 copies, and Volume 6 carried on with the poor momentum. Note that Volumes 3 and 4 had 6 days and 2 days of sales respectively.

Right below at Number 5 is a series that is no stranger to the Light Novel sales charts. Futsutsuka na Akujo de wa Gozaimasu ga: Suuguu Chou So Torikae Den was last seen twice for Volumes 2 and 3 last year, though it failed to make a strong impression for the 1st volume. Volume 2 sold 5,315 copies in the first 5 days whereas Volume 3 was at 5,528 copies in its first 6 days. Volume 4 which is placed 5th on this week’s chart has 7 days of sales with copies sold at 7,145, perhaps an improvement over Volume 3, but not so much for Volume 2. The title also has a Manga adaptation of the same, published via Comic ZERO-SUM with some of its chapters viewable here (click here for easy access to Chapter 1) in Japanese for free. According to its latest volume’s cover page, the series now has 800,000 copies in printed circulation.

Higeki no Genkyou to Naru Saikyou Gedou Last Boss Joou wa Tami no Tame ni Tsukushimasu. which is next at Number 10 has not made any Light Novel appearances before this on the charts since I started tracking. The 5th volume sold 3,552 copies in its first week, not that impressive. However, the title was last seen for its Manga adaptation at 33,378 copies in its first 7 days back between January 31 and February 6, 2022. Finally, Yubiwa no Eranda Konyakusha Volume 9 is 11th at 3,437 copies in its first 7 days. The title also has a Manga adaptation of the same name, serialized in Flos Comic.
