The Light Novel sales chart between April 25 and May 1 welcomes a slew of new releases with Hoshi no Kirby’s latest title “Ten Kakeru Fune to Kyogen no Majutsushi” placing 3rd at 11,230 copies sold in its first 5 days, up by 16.69% from Starlight Theatre e Youkoso! which 5-day sales netted it 9,356 copies back between March 7 and March 13.
At Number 4 is the 25th volume of Hachi-nan tte, Sore wa Nai deshou! at 10,423 copies sold in its first week. Down 14.19% debut-to-debut from Volume 20’s 12,147 copies sold back in July 2020. Its sales performance has been fluctuating since the release of Volume 18, for instance the 5-day sales of Volumes 18 and 19 were at 12,980 copies and 12,670 copies respectively, but copies sold went up to 13,393 for Volume 21 before a drop to 11,635 copies for Volume 23. Nevertheless, its latest performance is indicative of a decline since it was able to hit above 10,000 copies sold despite having shorter days of sales for its past volumes. The title also has a Manga adaptation that is currently ongoing where some of its chapters are viewable here in Japanese, and in 2020, it received a 12-episode TV Anime series adaptation by studios SynergySP and Shin-Ei Animation.
Next is Schema by Midori Mitsuki, whom you may have heard of since the very same person authored Goodbye Sengen which made its debut last year at 7,424 copies sold in its first 7 days. This time, the author’s latest work does slightly better at 9,752 copies sold in its first week. There is also a short promotional video for the volume by KADOKAWA published on April the 26th, and you can check out the video down below.
It is thanks to the amazing folks over at Oricon that we get to see these charts on a weekly basis, so be sure to head over to their site here and show them lots of love! In addition, all the data you find below is accessible via Oricon right here (Light Novel), here (Bunko) and here (Bungei-sho).
Gimai Seikatsu is 6th with its 5th volume at 9,367 copies sold in its first full week, a 21.78% upgrade over Volume 1’s debut of 7,327 copies sold. Note that the title has achieved stronger sales before for its 3rd volume at 8,370 copies, only in its first 5 days. The title is also having its Manga adaptation currently ongoing by artist Yumika Kanade which first began serialization in July 2021. You can check out some of its chapters through Comic Walker for free right here. KADOKAWA also released a short clip a few weeks ago of the two protagonists, Yuuta and his stepsister, Saki out on a shopping date. In the video the two characters were talking about the purchase of alcohol, of which the two are underage and ended up finding out that they are not able to make the purchase. The conversation then proceeded with Saki asking Yuuta if he would like to see her drunk, to which he responded that he is for a fact quite curious to see if it happens. At the end of the clip, Saki then mentioned that she too would like to see Yuuta being drunk. I actually made a rough translation of the clip, and if you are curious as to what they actually said, do click on the link all the way at the bottom of the post.
Then, at Number 7 is Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki Volume 17 at 6,249 copies sold in its first week. Remember, that its pre-sales were also charted the week before where the volume managed to sell 4,320 copies, which would put its lifetime sales so far at 10,569 copies sold. Likewise, at Number 8 is the 5th volume of Ore wa Seikan Kokka no Akutoku Ryoushu! at 6,188 copies, and like Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki, its pre-sales too were on the chart the week before at 4,962 copies, putting it slightly ahead of Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki at 11,150 copies. Note that both titles have their own respective Manga that are ongoing, but Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki is the only one of the two that received a 2-cour Anime adaptation, one in 2021 and another this year.
Head over to Number 10 is a title you may be familiar with, and that would be the 17th volume of Kenja no Deshi wo Nanoru Kenja at 4,820 copies sold in its first 2 days, a significant improvement over the 4,155 copies sold it had for Volume 16 between December 27, 2021, and January 2, 2022, in its first 6 days. The title also made an appearance for its Manga in January this year which saw 19,734 copies sold in its first week. Looks like the Anime adaptation which started its broadcast that same month is providing a push. You can check out its first chapter for its Manga available for reading here in Japanese (for easier access, do click here).

At Number 12 is Omiai Shitakunakatta node, Murinandai na Jouken wo Tsuketara Doukyuusei ga Kita Ken ni Tsuite Volume 4 at 4,444 copies sold in its first 4 days, a fairly new series which first began publication in 2020. Nearly a year after, it received a Manga adaptation of the same name, serializing through Young Ace UP with several of its chapters available here for free in Japanese, so do check them out. You can also dive into its short and voiced drama released by KADOKAWA back in September last year down below. Number 14 is Kaifukushoku no Akuyaku Reijou, a new title by author Puni-chan and Yoh Hihara at 3,681 copies sold in its first week, and finally, the pre-sales of Tanaka-ke, Tensei suru. Volume 4 makes its appearance at Number 15 at 3,614 copies sold.
