Japan Top 13 Weekly Anime Blu-ray and DVD Ranking: November 22, 2021 ~ November 28, 2021

Sales of Anime Blu-rays and DVDs hit a recovery after several weeks being under a dry spell as the week between November 22 to November 28 is greeted by a slew of new releases led by Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash by a huge margin. The film noted 50,216 copies sold in total for all its Blu-ray and DVD editions, putting it far ahead of Number 5’s IDOLiSH7: Third Beat! Volume 2 [Limited Release] which saw a combined sales of 14,030 copies for its Blu-rays and DVDs. Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash was initially screened back in the month of June, and soon after received a release on Netflix. Two sequels are planned, however the release dates are still unknown. In the meantime, you can check out its official trailer down below! And then we have Love Live! Superstar!! Volume 3 [Limited Release] placing 3rd for the week at 12,223 copies sold. Do not be so alarmed by the seemingly poorer sales it has compared to previous volumes. This is due to the relatively shorter days of sales Volume 3 has which is 3 days as opposed to Volume 1’s 6 days and Volume 2’s 5 days of sales. Had it gone a day or two further, it may see a closer turnout to its previous volumes, and most likely would have had better sales than Volume 2.

Just right after, you will find Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2205: Aratanaru Tabidachi Volume 1 which both Blu-ray and DVD versions saw a total 12,800 copies sold. Do not forget, that between October 11 to October 17, it saw several hundred worth of presales making onto the chart most likely as a result of the film being screened at the time (October 8). Every once in a while, Blu-ray or DVD copies are sold earlier in such events. As such, its lifetime copies sold would have definitely been more than 13,000 copies. The film serves as the direct sequel to the 26-episodes OVA, Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2202: Ai no Senshi-tachi. 

Tian Guan Ci Fu Part 2 which comes in 7th is at 5,918 copies sold, 25.63% higher than copies sold for Part 1. Note that the two have 5 days of sales. Nevertheless, this would be its final volume for the series’ video package release.

At Number 8 is Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song 6th and final volume. This would be the title’s best performance ever. While sales have not been consistently improving, doing so up till the 4th volume before facing a decline for Volume 5, copies sold is a lot better for Volume 6 by 10.86% debut-to-debut. Note that all volumes have 5 days of sales. In total, its debut sales alone amounts to 21,888 copies sold.

Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken 2nd Season missed out on placing for its 1st volume, however it has steadily seen placements for Volume 2 to now Volume 4 on the Top 20 Blu-ray sales chart. Copies sold are much higher for Volumes 2 and 3 thanks to longer days of sales of 5 and 6 days each. Volume 4 could be said to have the series best so far having reached 3,710 copies sold in the span of 3 days. 

Head over to Number 10 and you will find Koukaku Kidoutai: SAC_2045 Blu-ray Box at 2,723 copies in 3 days. Despite the low turnout, it was still rather decent given the price of the package. However, this would be its only volume. Magia Record: Mahou Shoujo Madoka☆Magica Gaiden (TV) 2nd Season – Kakusei Zenya Volume 1 is 12th with 2,587 copies sold and Tsukipro The Animation 2 is 13th with 2,542 copies sold. The first will see a sequel titled “Asaki Yume no Akatsuki” to be released on an unannounced date while the second is still airing. Tsukipro The Animation 2 is also the direct sequel to Tsukipro The Animation which aired back in 2017 between October 4th to December 27th.

As mentioned before, Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash maintains a huge lead over the rest for the week sitting atop at 50,216 copies sold. IDOLiSH7: Third Beat! Volume 2 is 2nd at 14,030 copies, Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2205: Aratanaru Tabidachi Volume 1 is 3rd at 12,800 copies while Love Live! Superstar!! Volume 3 comes in 4th at 12,223 copies.

In terms of revenue, the standings changed albeit a little. Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash is still first with a huge 328,218,517 yen (≈2.89 million USD) in revenue made in its first 3 days, and is followed by IDOLiSH7: Third Beat! Volume 2 at 118,879,000 yen (≈1.05 million USD). Then, Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2205: Aratanaru Tabidachi Volume 1 at 109,650,000 yen (≈965.85 thousand USD). However, here Love Live! Superstar!! Volume 3 has less sales than Tian Guan Ci Fu and Koukaku Kidoutai: SAC_2045 as both have much higher prices. That said, Love Live! Superstar!! will still have an advantage over the two since it is expecting three more volumes coming in the subsequent months.
