Japan Top 10 Weekly Light Novel Ranking: July 26, 2021 ~ August 1, 2021

Mo Dao Zu Shi continues to do well seeing another rise debut-to-debut with the release of its 4th volume selling 35,874 copies in its first week. The Japanese releases of the Light Novel first made their appearances back in the month of May where Volume 1 and Volume 2 sold 24,477 (including the Limited Edition) and 21,747 copies respectively in their first weeks. Volume 3 made its debut the month after marking a slight increase over sales of previous individual volumes to see 25,891 copies sold in its debut week.

The week also features a number of new releases including the latest release of Tokidoki Bosotto Roshiago de Dereru Tonari no Alya-san Volume 2 which has become apparently very popular in Japan since the release of Volume 1. Sales for its latest volume is at a very healthy 17,661 copies sold, up 64.83% debut-to-debut over Volume 1’s sales in its first week. Speaking of which, the release of its 2nd volume has also spurred demand for its 1st volume as it places 10th for the week selling 4,483 copies. Together, both volumes has sold 22,144 copies in total. Don’t forget to check out its promotional video down below too which features a conversation between the two main characters of the series!

You can find Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon Volume 5 at Number 3 for the week with 15,462 copies sold. The series also has a Manga adaptation which is currently publishing through Gangan Online, and the first chapter is available for free right here (in Japanese). Two new releases on the week’s chart are Mamahaha no Tsurego ga Motokano datta Volume 7 which records fewer copies sold than Volume 6 in its first week. Sales are down debut-to-debut by 3.99% to 5,534 copies. Likewise, Mahoutsukai de Hikikomori? Volume 10 which comes in at Number 9 faces a setback as number of copies sold retreats by 33.19% over Volume 9’s debut sales to 4,524 copies.

As for others, Ryuu to Sobakasu no Hime falls three spots to settle for the 4th place. Sales are 34.15% lower than a week ago as it ends the week at 12,277 copies sold. Nevertheless, its seven-week sales now are at 73,231 copies sold. Its related title, which comes with illustrations by Yoriyuki Ikegami is two spots below at Number 6 for the week. It too faces a decline week-on-week as only 5,579 copies are sold compared to the 7,575 copies it made the prior week.

Hoshi no Kirby: Dedede Daiou no Dassou Daisakusen at Number 6 succumbs to yet another fall as it is 28.87% down week-on-week while Otonari no Tenshi-sama ni Itsunomanika Dame Ningen ni Sareteita Ken Volume 5 stumbles 49.81% to see 3,607 worth of sales made. Yet, the title manages to see sales of its Volume 5 go beyond the 30,000 copies sold mark.

    1. Hmmm I haven’t read the Light Novel, but I think it is to show that the female protagonist is not Japanese. Maybe, there are conversations in the Light Novel that are in Russian? 😅
