Japan Top 10 Weekly Anime Blu-ray and DVD Ranking: March 28, 2022 ~ April 3, 2022

The 5-day sales of Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yuukaku-hen Volume 2 reports a 19.68% decrease of copies sold compared to its 1^st volume from 22,021 copies to 17,688 copies as it places 1^st on the chart for the week between March 28 and April 3. The Blu-ray version of the 2^nd volume has sold 11,674 copies, down by 18.45% from the 1^st volume whereas its DVDs shed by about 21.96%. The series is expecting the 3^rd volume to hit stores this coming April the 27^th.

This would not have been Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2205: Aratanaru Tabidachi Volume 2’s first appearance on the chart as it was last seen with its pre-sales back between February 7 and February 13 selling 699 copies. Having now being officially released, copies sold are at a healthy 11,600 copies in the first 6 days. That should put its total copies sold for its Blu-rays so far at 12,299 copies. Couple that with the 3,953 copies it has sold for its DVDs, you are looking at a great 16,252 copies sold in total. Note that Volume 1 made its debut at 9,810 copies back in November 2021 in the span of 3 days. The series is slated to receive a sequel titled “Yamato yo, Towa ni: Rebel 3199” on an unannounced date.

IDOLiSH7: Third Beat! Volume 4 is next with its Blu-rays netting 8,707 copies in its first 6 days, and if you head over to the DVD’s Top 20 list, it is 1^st with copies sold amounting to 6,394 copies. Together, that would be 15,101 copies sold in total. Its sales performance has been very irregular with sales peaking with Volume 2 at 14,030 copies despite at a much shorter 3-day sales. Copies sold were slow for Volumes 1 and 3 with both Blu-rays and DVDs only able to push out around 7,000 copies in their first 6 days and 5 days. Note that this would be its final volume release.

At Number 4, you will find Strike the Blood Final OVA Volume 1 at 6,439 copies sold in the first 5 days for its Blu-rays. The DVD version sees 667 copies sold, allowing it to pass the 7,000 mark. Note that its Blu-ray copies are 7.67% better than copies sold of Strike the Blood IV OVA Volume 6 back in July 2021. Then, at Number 5 is Love Live! Sunshine!! at 6,279 copies sold in its first 6 days, part of the Bandai Namco Entertainment’s Blu-ray BOX releases of its past titles which include the remastered edition of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED at 4,586 copies at Number 7 while the classic Brain Powerd places 9^th on the list at 2,134 copies sold.

At Number 6 is the sequel film to Princess Principal: Crown Handler at 4,929 copies sold. The film was first released back in September 2021 by studio Actas. Unfortunately, copies sold are down by 16.44% compared to the 1^st movie discs debut in September that same year. Lord El-Melloi II Sei no Jikenbo: Rail Zeppelin Grace Note Special is at Number 8 for the week with 2,304 copies sold in its first 5 days. The Special episode was released last year on December 31^st by TROYCA. Finally, Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya Movie: Licht – Namae no Nai Shoujo is 10^th on the list with the edition that comes with a set of “B2 Tapestry and Acrylic Stand”. It however could not sell enough to be placed on the Top 20. Copies sold are under 1,900 for the week.

In terms of copies sold, Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yuukaku-hen leads the chart at 17,688 copies, 12.07% more than Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2205: Aratanaru Tabidachi Volume 2 which places 2^nd on the list at 15,553 copies. IDOLiSH7: Third Beat! Volume 4 is 3^rd at 15,101 copies. In terms of revenue, the heftier Bandai Namco Entertainment Blu-ray BOX releases of its past titles take the first two spots with Love Live! Sunshine!! leading at 238,602,000 yen (≈1.93 million USD) while Mobile Suit Gundam SEED places 2^nd at 183,440,000 yen (≈1.48 million USD). Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2205: Aratanaru Tabidachi, which is also a Bandai Namco Entertainment release is 3^rd at 132,913,400 yen (≈1.07 million USD).
