End of the month tends to be quite busy with major releases making their latest volume debuts, and for the week between June 27 and July 3, that is just exactly how it is. The Top 10 is filled nearly to the brim with new releases, led by the 5th volume of Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yuukaku-hen at 10,571 copies sold for its Blu-ray edition, and its DVDs are also at the top of its respective chart at 5,453 copies sold, both in their first 5 days. In total, it saw a great 16,024 copies sold. Unfortunately, after a behemoth of a turnout it had for Volume 1, its sales performance continues to drop debut-to-debut. Its latest performance is 46.88% weaker than Volume 1’s 30,167 copies sold, 9.41% and 2.56% drop from Volumes 2 and 3 and only a minor setback of 0.80% over Volume 4’s 16,154 copies sold. So far, its debut sales alone have amounted to 96,478 copies which should put its total lifetime sales to more than 100,000 copies sold so far as of the time of writing.
Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru is 2nd with its 4th volume on both Blu-ray and DVD charts for the week, selling a total of 8,999 copies sold in its first 5 days. Like Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yuukaku-hen, it too is witnessing fewer and fewer copies sold debut-to-debut after hitting off big for its 1st volume at 10,130 copies sold back in March. Volume 4’s performance is down from Volumes 1 to 3 by 11.16%, 3.60% and 1.78% respectively. The series is expecting two more volumes to enter the fray. The next volume will be released this month on the 27th whereas the last will hit stores nationwide in Japan on August the 31st.
Akebi-chan no Sailor-fuku is next at Number 3 with its 3rd volume at 3,316 copies sold in its first 5 days, though its DVDs failed to sell enough to be ranked on the Top 20 general chart. Previously, Volume 2 reported a 7.39% drop in sales from Volume 1’s 3,531 copies sold, however a recovery of 1.41% is experienced thanks to Volume 3’s performance.
It is thanks to the wonderful people over at Oricon that we get to see these charts on a weekly basis, so be sure to head over to their site here and show them lots of love! Plus, all the data you find below is accessible via Oricon right here (Blu-ray) and here (DVD).
Shuumatsu no Harem makes its final debut with Volume 4 at 3,241 copies sold in its first 5 days, which is 4.84% less than the performance of Volume 2 at 3,406 copies sold back in April. Its releases do not come in the same number of days, hence the fluctuation observed in its average per day performance in the graph below. Volume 1 had a welcoming start when it sold 2,631 copies in just 2 days while Volume 3 did better than Volumes 2 and 4, selling 3,367 copies in its first 3 days. All in all, its debut sales alone have now hit 12,645 copies in total.
If you skip a spot over to Number 6, you will find the final volume of Magia Record: Mahou Shoujo Madoka☆Magica Gaiden (TV) Final Season – Asaki Yume no Akatsuki at 2,502 copies sold in its first 5 days, up 14.09% over Volume 1’s 2,193 copies sold back between May 23 and May 29. Then, sadly to say, the rest that comes after failed to chart on the Top 20 Blu-ray and DVD general charts with the 1st volumes of Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Ultra Romantic, Paripi Koumei and Kawaii dake ja Nai Shikimori-san placing 7th, 8th and 10th respectively. The final volume of Vanitas no Karte is 9th on the list. Note that the cut-off point on the Top 20 is 1,844 copies, and Kaguya-sama sold just under that.
In terms of estimated revenue, there are minor changes, however Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yuukaku-hen Volume 5 and Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru Volume 4 remain steadfast in their positions. Thanks to the higher copies sold for Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yuukaku-hen, it leads estimated revenue by a decent margin at 98,703,000 yen (≈727.49 thousand USD) whereas Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru is at 62,057,000 yen (≈457.38 thousand USD). Akebi-chan no Sailor-fuku does lead in terms of copies sold when compared to Shuumatsu no Harem, yet when it comes to revenue the latter outpaces Akebi-chan by 25.66%. That said, Shuumatsu no Harem does not have a DVD version, therefore, the difference between the two would have been reduced albeit a small one.
When it comes to Labels or Distributors (remember only for releases that made onto the Top 20 general charts), Aniplex is ahead with a total of six appearances on both Blu-ray and DVD charts, bringing home with it 200,985,600 yen (≈1.48 million USD) in sales. Note that Aniplex is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony. Bandai Namco Filmworks, avex pictures and NBCUniversal Entertainment have one each with NBCUniversal Entertainment coming out on top among the three at 29,169,000 yen (≈214.91 thousand USD).
