Doraemon is without a doubt a series that many are familiar with and has been synonymous with Japan since its inception. It is very difficult to dissociate the two, as one could not help to think about our blue robotic cat and the land that is responsible for its rise to fame. Despite all that, this may shock many people because Doraemon has yet to have a store of its own. This is quite a surprise taking into account of another popular series such as Pokemon which has not only one but seventeen stores all around the world.

This however, is set to change. On Friday the 20th last week, Benelic Co., Ltd. a Japanese store operator – who also operates a bunch of other stores such as the Moomin Stand – has announced that the first official Doraemon store will be coming to Odaiba, Japan very soon this winter. This is to commemorate Doraemon’s 40th anniversary of TV broadcasting which came in last April as well as next year’s 50th anniversary of its serialization. The operator has decided to make DiverCity Tokyo Plaza a shopping mall in Odaiba, Tokyo – a popular tourist destination which also hosts the Giant Sky Wheel in Palette Town – the venue for the official store.
